Earth Mama, Mothers' Day Kitchenware Window Display

The Earth Mama theme is conveyed through a natural, neutral colour palette of browns accented with Spring green and Autumnal orange. Whether one's mother makes pies, smokes food, drinks tea, makes her own bread, pasta, butter or yoghurt, is conscientiously plastic or waste free, or enjoys the luxurious pleasure of a glass of bubbly and fresh oysters after a hard day's work, there is something to suit everyone's mum.

Easter Kitchenware Window Display

Initial concept development sketch.

This year a concerted, self driven effort was made to dress the Easter windows as they had not been done before.
  • Easter windows can be very bitsy due to the small scale of the merchandise. Cake tins were used to add visual presence and to complement the sweetness of Easter treats. Additionally...
  • ...Hand drawn and cut out, larger than life rabbit props were made from reclaimed cardboard
  • Temporary nest like structures made of woodstraw were fashioned, to evoke Spring
  • Instead of a pair of aprons flanking the central panel, a single apron created the peak, in line with the solid background
  • Chocolate moulds that had previously been deemed too irksome to repack were carefully unpacked to keep the soft colour palette as tight as possible.
  • Prop eggs from the Flying Frog Concepts Prop Library were used, instead of the eggs originally sourced for the client years ago.
The result was delighted customers and passersby with sell out sales of many items. Some stock was reordered and still sold through strongly. It made maintaining the window challenging but worthwhile!

Close up of central panel.

An assortment of stylised rabbit poses developed for the window. The yellow, orange and pale purple poses were used.

Baby rabbit, handmade cut out from reclaimed corrugated cardboard.

Rabbit cardboard prop.

Grouping the rabbit pancake ring with the crepe spreader, next to the Kitchenaid stand mixer helps to convey the purpose of the object for those not familiar with it.

Pretty in pink - and a fun way to display duck and baby chick biscuit cutters, by posing them in a ceramic egg tray with prop eggs. Taking a cue from the apron and oven mitts in the display, black and granite tones were strategically used in the window display to add impact, and a mature sophistication to what would otherwise be a very soft and feminine colour palette.

Reclaimed woodstraw was used to create several clean, earth toned bird nests. Here is a squirrel egg cosy with a pair of eggs in an enamel dish 'nest'.

This temporary prop nest made of woodstraw, cradles a speckled egg from the Flying Frog Concepts Prop Library. One dozen such eggs in speckled, pale blue and terracotta were used throughout the display.

Christmas Kitchenware Window Display

As per client request, window is full of stock so that passers by have to stop to take it all in.

New golden products by Robert Gordon in woodland themed shelf.

A cosy serving suggestion - without the use of food.

After placing this vacuum sealer in the window with a prop steak vacuum sealed in a bag, sales of this high ticket product increased markedly.

Fathers' Day Kitchenware Window Display

Imperial purple is not a conventional colour for Fathers' Day but it does bring out the warm natural tones of the featured products and adds a touch of luxury to the shinier ones.

The hand made puff of smoke rises again...

'... a lovely bunch of coconuts...' Hand assembled coconut props were created especially for this display. They helped the client completely sell out of coconut yoghurt kits. This had not happened when the product was in the window previously, unpropped.

Soft Sell - Gentle tones and warmth - Kitchenware Window Display

Featuring Hug Me mugs by Robert Gordon Pottery, bambooware, woodware, Plastic Free July drinking options by KeepCup and Oasis, and all white electrical products.

The colour scheme of predominantly natural tones and textures, accented with pastels and crisp, contrasting white makes a hero of the Robert Gordon Hug Me mug product and packaging (unglossed, unbleached board with pink, grey, black and mint graphics). Plain brown paper backdrops tie in with this as well as relate to the adjoining window displays. The client had difficulty keeping up with demand, with once abundant window mugs/sets selling out, and substitution required several times.

Yellow isn't normally a colour that sells well, and neither did these jugs but plcing one in the window has inspired some sales.

Classic Kitchenware, A Christmas Window Display

Display design drawing.

The client requested that the windows be as full as possible to make passers by stop to have a proper look. It works. Several popular items had to be pulled from the window to sell, then sold out.

The main window features traditional and classic kitchenware,
major electrical brands and some new kits from Sausages Made Simple
The tone is set through use of traditional Christmas colours,
with some turquoise to add a modern twist and some cool visual relief in the heat of Summer.
This is balanced out with abundant use of red.

The client has installed timed spotlights to midnight for their late night window shoppers.

From a gift pack for a manual pasta maker, accesories with new optional motor.

Gingerbread men cookie cutters - all of which sold out - with a cutter from gingerbread house template.
